I can’t believe it’s been so long since I’ve posted. I’d like to say that I’ve been doing something fun between posts but I really haven’t. I have a little down time tonight so I thought I’d post some thoughts!
There has been a lot going on lately that has made me realize how blessed I am. Everything from finishing up my final months of my college career to buying a new house, getting a promotion, and even a death in the family.
As I start to wrap up the final month and a half of my bachelors degree I’m starting to realize how lucky I am to have the opportunity to further my education. I know over the last eight years I have complained a lot about going to school (yes you heard me right, eight years). But when I stop and think about it I am joining a small minority of the world that has had the opportunity to get a college degree. Even though I’m excited to be done with school I’m a little concerned about what I am going to do with all of my extra time!
Our lease at our current apartment runs out on May 5th. So Bernd and I were forced to start thinking seriously about what we want to do and where we want to live. After doing some research we decided that our best option would be to buy something. After looking for a couple of weeks for a place to live we realized that the housing market in Utah very fast paced. So we knew if we found something that we would have to act quickly. So we made all of the necessary arrangements to be prepared to make an offer the moment we found something and it’s a good thing we did. We found the perfect place! The property was only on the market for six days. We were the first ones to see the property and we decided to make an offer pretty much as soon as we walked in the door. It’s a good thing we did because there were two other offers made that day and one the following day. Luckily the sellers choose ours! We close on it on Wednesday! It needs a little fixing up but nothing we can’t handle. We’re actually kind of excited to do the work. We’re thinking about trying the house flipping business with my family so it will be a good way to learn how to do things and then do it to our own house.
This post is starting to get kind of long so I’ll wrap it up. A couple of weeks ago we lost Bernd’s cousin and her two kids in a car accident. I didn’t know them very well (although Tracy was the one cousin that I knew the best of the VanSkiver’s) but their passing really hit me. I’ve been to a lot of funerals in my life and every time I go through a death I feel so blessed to have the gospel in my life. I honestly don’t know how people go through an experience like that without the gospel. It’s the only way I can make sense of anything and get through sad times like this.
I am so blessed. I have a good husband that loves and supports me. I have a great family that it always there for me. I have a good job, good friends, a good place to live (in 5 days anyway!) and most importantly I have the gospel. I am one very blessed person!
As of 4:00 last night Bernd and I are home owner’s! We just bought a 1,300 square foot townhouse in West Jordan. We’re really excited. It has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a nice family room and a decent kitchen. The sellers live in California so they rented it out to a single mom and her two kids. They will be moving out on Friday and Saturday so hopefully we will get the keys Saturday afternoon.
